Artisanal Surfaces: The Mastery of Microcement & Venetian Plaster
Wall finishes are often treated as an afterthoughtβjust a coat of paint to cover the plasterβbut we see them as the defining character of a space. In high-end London interiors, the demand for seamless, tactile surfaces has moved away from traditional wallpaper and towards the architectural depth of Venetian plaster, Marmorino, and Microcement. At Easy Building Ltd, we donβt just “apply” these finishes; we craft them. These materials require a level of hand-tool dexterity and technical knowledge of substrates that goes far beyond standard decorating. It is the difference between a flat colour and a living, breathing surface that catches the light.
Microcement is the ultimate solution for those who despise grout lines. Itβs a game-changer for bathrooms and kitchens, providing a continuous, waterproof surface that is as tough as stone but only a few millimetres thick. Meanwhile, Venetian plaster and Marmorino offer a timeless elegance, ranging from high-gloss polished marble finishes to soft, earthy textures. These aren’t just aesthetic choices; they are breathable, lime-based materials that naturally resist mould and improve indoor air quality. Whether itβs a feature wall in a Chelsea apartment or a seamless floor in a modern extension, we deliver a finish that is as much a piece of art as it is a functional surface.

Is Microcement durable enough for high-traffic kitchen floors?
Yes, when applied correctly. The strength of Microcement doesn’t just come from the material itself, but from the multi-stage sealing process. We apply high-performance, scratch-resistant polyurethanes that protect the surface from stains and heavy foot traffic. Itβs actually more flexible than traditional concrete, making it less prone to cracking while being incredibly easy to clean.
Can Venetian Plaster be used in a bathroom?
Marmorino and certain Venetian plasters are lime-based and naturally breathable, which is great for humidity. However, for areas in direct contact with waterβlike inside a showerβwe recommend specific waterproof versions or Microcement. For the rest of the bathroom walls, Venetian plaster is a fantastic choice as it naturally inhibits the growth of mould and bacteria.
How long does the application process take?
These are artisanal, multi-layered finishes. You cannot rush them. A typical project involves multiple coats, drying times, and hand-polishing or sealing stages, usually taking about 5 to 7 days. Itβs a labour-intensive process that requires patience, but the result is a unique, handcrafted surface that simply cannot be replicated by any machine or standard paint.
